You’ll also be trained and certified to provide additional services, such as mold inspections and radon testing for both commercial and residential properties. Check out our free bonus inspection courses included with your home inspection course.

Most home inspectors are self-employed, which gives you the freedom to set your own hours, schedule, and number of inspections you’d like to perform each week. This makes it great as both a part-time or full-time career depending on your goals. Top benefits of a home inspector career include:

  • Being your own boss
  • Low startup costs
  • High growth potential
  • Stable income
  • Flexible hours
  • Providing a valuable service

Home Inspector Salary

The real estate market is booming, which is creating an increasing number of opportunities and high salaries for certified home inspectors. A study by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) found that the median pay for home inspectors was $60,000 per year with employment growing faster than average. The average home inspection fee is $400 in the United States, although the fee for each inspection may vary depending on home size, travel time, scheduling, and local markets. Home Inspectors who perform three inspections per week will gross approximately $1,200 per week ($62,400 per year) and those doing ten inspections a week will gross $4,000 per week ($208,000 per year). Home inspectors can complete 2-3 inspections in a single day.

Home inspector license requirements vary by state. Fortunately, ICA offers home inspection training approved in 44 states! Our home inspector course can be completed anywhere and at any time. Regardless of the state you’re a resident of, our online training will set you up for success as a licensed home inspector.
